Jeremy Hanks

JerCore

Cofounder, Chairman & CEO

Jeremy is an entreprenuer (and a mean looking Norse God in Viking form. He is Cofounder & CEO of DropShip.com. Previously, he cofounded and was CEO, then President, of Doba for 9 years; bootstrapping Doba to growth of over 3,000% from 2003 to 2006, a #23 ranking on the Inc. 500, and #1 on the Utah 100 as the fastest growing company in Utah. Prior to Doba, he founded and sold GearTrade.com.

Besides maintaining your Awesomeness, what do you do when not at DropShip.com?

For me, maintaining awesomeness has always come quite easily, so it provides a decent amount of free time to do other things. I love spending time with my wife Amy, and our two kids, Kaitlin and Alex. I especially love spending that time with them in the outdoors. I’m a pretty solid outdoor gear nut, and whether with my family, or with friends, make it a point to spend as much time as possible hiking, backpacking, snowshoeing, skiing, camping, and road-tripping around the great outdoors. Utah is one of the best spots on the planet for proximity to quantity, quality, and variety of things to do of an adventure bent; it’s one of the reasons I love to live here. I also spend time giving back to the entrepreneurial and tech community here in Utah. I started LaunchUp.org, a monthly event for "Barn Raising for Entrepreneurs" I try to spend time speaking to and working with college students to help them “Defy Gravity” and go chase their entrepreneur side. I am also a trustee and member of the exec committee of the Utah Technology Council.

You have a year sabbatical, what do you do on it?

I would mash up my three passions: Family, entrepreneurship, outdoors by planning a trip around the United States, and then onto the world, visiting places where I could fit in an outdoor adventure or two, but also where I could meet with local entrepreneur instigators and share ideas about entrepreneurial community building. Maybe see about helping these smaller communities start up a local chapter of LaunchUp.org. Bring the family along for the ride. I’d hit 15 places in the U.S., 35 in other countries. Fun Times.

What is your nickname? What’s the story behind it?

My nickname is JerCore. Friends that come with me on the outdoor trips I organize a couple of times per year dubbed me it. You know, we’re not HardCore, we’re JerCore. So they became JerCore trips. We have a logo. And a website: jercore.com (hasn’t been updated for a long time!). And lest you think that maybe I don’t deserve such an awesome and intense nickname, I forst point you to my Avatar. Right? And if that still has you doubting, check this post out: Curveballs (or boulders as they may be)

Best word in the English Language?

pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. According to my 12-year son, it is the longest word in the English language. It was a proud day when he could actually say it. So much so, that he runs around the house repeating it multiple times a day.

You have a year sabbatical, what do you do on it?

I’d head to Alaska - the last frontier of the US. It would be hard to beat living in a cabin next to a beautiful river overlooking mountains. I’d just need enough guns to hold my own with the Grizzlies.

If you could live the life of one film character, who would be and why?

Jason Bourne. Come on ... trained assassin with amnesia. You just react baby!

Pelao Feliz

Cofounder & V.P. Technology

I’ve been programming since taking Beginning Pascal in high school when I fell in love with the potential for creation offered by technology. I love creating useful solutions to real problems. I’m lucky to work alongside the smart and driven people here at Dropship.com.

Best word in the English Language?

Defenestration

What is your nickname? What’s the story behind it?

Pelao Feliz is Spanish for “happy baldy” and was bestowed upon me when I lived in Chile for a couple of years. It’s obviously a commentary on my dashing looks, muscular physique and stellar intelligence.

You have a year sabbatical; what do you do on it?

I love spending time with my family — we’d do a road trip across the U.S., spend a couple of months up in the mountains, and construct a tree house in the back yard. If the sabbatical came with money, we’d spend the year building a castle up in the mountains, complete with moat and banners caught high in the morning breeze.

My 6 older siblings helped make music and video much of what I love about electronics. As university students, my wife and I realized my computer skills could become a source of income and I began an Illustrious I.T. career.

5,000 mile road trip in a 6 seater. You’re driving. Who, living or dead, is riding with you, and why?

My wife, oldest kids, Steve Jobs and Tina Fey. I live for my family, technology and humor. Steve Jobs is obvious, and I’m certain the dynamics of my wife, Steve and Tina would be awesome. My kids would need to witness said awesomeness. (Also, babies are uncool on road trips.)

Zombies are approaching from the east — what do you do?

Learn to harness zombie energy using brains-as-carrot techniques. Revolutionize the zombie-world energy industry.

If you could live the life of one film character, who would it be and why?

Marty McFly. Who doesn’t want to be a rock-guitar playing time-traveller who has a mad scientist as a friend, and also gets the hot brunette in the end? (I’m ¼ of the way there!)

Besides maintaining your Awesomeness, what do you do when not at DropShip.com?

I enjoy sports and the great outdoors. I wakeboard when its hot, snowboard when its not, and I play basketball whenever I can get enough guys to play. I enjoy camping with my family, playing tennis with my wife and spending as much time with my two daughters as I can, doing whatever it is they can think up at the moment.

You have a year sabbatical, what do you do on it?

Tour the country in a motorhome with my family. We’d take a MasterCraft to all of the best lakes and rivers in the summer for as much wakeboarding, slalom skiing and wakesurfing as we can handle and we would hit all of the sand-dunes with dirt-bikes and quads. Then, when it gets cold, we’d travel to all of the best mountains for snowboarding and skiing.

If you could live the life of one film character, who would it be and why?

Goofy. He had it all. He was a family man. He showed us how to do all of the things I enjoy doing. And, even though he pretty much messed everything up, he never gave up and laughed through it all.

You have a year sabbatical, what do you do on it?

I’d pack up my motorcycle and hit the road. Like Caine in Kung Fu, I’d go from place to place, get in adventures... My dream trip would be an epic round-the-world trip via motorcycle.

Zombies are approaching from the east - what do you do?

First, I tell my wife: “I told you so!” Then, I grab my bug-out bag and load the supplies I’ve been collecting into my truck. I’d board up the house as best I can, in hopes that we’ll have something to come back to after the scourge of zeds is eradicated from the planet. My wife would drive the truck and I’d take the motorcycle, that way we have 2 viable forms of transportation should the walking dead find us and we have to evac. We would head to the relative safety of the Oquirrh Mountains west of Salt Lake City. There would be less people to deal with, and zombies suck at climbing. We’d set up camp in the old miner’s cabin I’d previously staked out. It’s a solid structure with good vantage points for seeing intruders from afar. We’re safe, for now…(What? You haven’t thought about it that much?)

John McClane. That dude is balls-out awesome. Yipee-kai-ay Motherf-er.

Zombies are approaching from the east - what do you do?

What are we talking about here? Fast zombies? Slow zombies? Of course you’ve got to load up on guns and non-perishable food. Then drive to a nice creepy cabin in the woods. Or maybe just grab a cricket bat and head to the winchester to wait it out.

Zombies are approaching from the east - what do you do?

Head to my brother-in-laws house to raid his gun arsenal, then head for the hills with my family and trailer in tow to wait it out. One big long camping trip...

What is your nickname? What’s the story behind it?

My friends called me "Dangerous" when I was a teenager. We would always be out playing basketball, football, roller hockey, etc. and someone (myself included, sometimes) would get injured. Could have been an elbow to the face, getting run over on a drive to the hoop, or just about anything else. It didn’t ever keep us from playing together, just created more bruises.

You have a year sabbatical, what do you do on it?

I would head for the mountains and just spend my time Mountain Biking, Rock Climbing, Kayaking, Fishing, Hiking, Snowshoeing, Snowboarding, etc...

Best word in the English Language?

Irregardless: Although now a recognized word in the dictionary, it happens to be one of the most commonly misused “words” in common conversation.

I would go on a world helicopter snowboard tour and hit all the incredible mountains that I wouldn’t ever get to ride otherwise. (Alaska, France, Austria, Switzerland, Japan, Scandinavia, Australia)

When he caught word of the DropShip.com spin-off, Clark jumped at the chance to get back into the world of drop shipping and ecommerce.

Besides maintaining your Awesomeness, what do you do when not at DropShip.com?

I love to spend time with my wife and son, play basketball, camp/hike/backpack, snowboard, do volunteer work for my church, write screenplays, read, work on video projects, and watch movies.

Best word in the English Language? Why?

Asdiculous. It’s a combination of asinine and ridiculous. Once you know this word, you’ll be surprised just how often you find things/people/situation to be ridiculously asinine necessitating the use of this word.

If you could live the life of one film character, who would it be and why?

Probably Wolverine from X-Men, but not for the reasons you think. Sure, retractable adamantium claws are pretty rad, but after some rather painful health problems this year, I’ve come to value my health more than ever before. Nearly instantaneous healing capabilities sound pretty nice right now, plus Blaine will be happy when I never take a sick day.
